Random Act Artist Randy Johnston has long been known as a “guitarist’s guitarist.” Combining jazz, funk, rock and soul into a unique style, he has evolved into one of the finest guitar players in music today clearly displayed in his latest album, People Music. Born in Detroit, he spent his teens in Richmond, VA prior to attending the University of Miami (FL). Since moving to his home base of New York City, Randy Johnston has recorded and toured with jazz luminaries like Houston Person and Etta Jones, Lou Donaldson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jack McDuff, Tom Harrell and Joey DeFrancesco. He has recorded several albums as a leader, working with an impressive array of sidemen including Eric Alexander, Idris Muhammad, Johnny Griffin and Grady Tate. In addition to his performance and compositional talents, Randy is also a fine music educator. He has been on the faculties of New York University, SUNY at Purchase, Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, CT and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. He also conducts clinics and seminars throughout the U.S. and abroad, while also offering private instruction in jazz guitar. Joined by fellow stellar musicians Pat Bianchi, on the Hammond organ, and drummer Carmen Intorre, Jr., Randy’s new musical directions on People Music mark a bold new step for this virtuoso who desires to communicate with listeners worldwide.
